How many years of driving licence do you need for TVDE?
Published 1 October 2026 · Ler em português
More than 3 years, of a category B licence, with a group 2 endorsement. And, alongside that, being at least 21 years old. These are the two requirements that stop the most applicants before the course even starts.
Both count at once
Being 21 is not enough on its own, and nor is having held the licence for three years. The requirements are cumulative: if you passed your test at 20, you meet the licence requirement at 23, and that is when you can move forward.
The group 2 endorsement
This is the part that catches people out. Holding category B is not enough: the licence needs the group 2 endorsement, which involves a medical assessment of its own. Check whether you have it before paying for a course.
The rest of the requirements
Once the licence years and the age are met, what remains is the 50-hour course at a recognised entity, a criminal record certificate requested for the right purpose, good standing, and a written contract with an operator. The full list is here.
Quick questions
How many years of licence are needed for TVDE?
More than 3 years, category B, with a group 2 endorsement.
What is the minimum age?
21. The age requirement and the licence requirement apply at the same time.
What is the group 2 endorsement?
It is a mention on the licence, tied to a medical assessment, required for the activity. Check whether your licence already carries it before enrolling in a course.
After the certificate comes the paperwork: registering at the tax office, receipts to the fleet, VAT and Social Security. Zeelity handles that on autopilot, with a certified accountant behind it, from 16.90 euros a month.
